Daily practice provides a context in which we can gradually awaken to ourselves as we are. Daily practice should not be construed as a chronological progression toward a new and improved self, or our practice time will be fraught with subtle self-aggression.

The practice of yogasana for the sake of health, to keep fit, or to maintain flexibility is the external practice of yoga. While this is a legitimate place to begin, it is not the end. As one penetrates the inner body more deeply, one's mind becomes immersed in the asana.

The greater purpose of a formal yoga practice...is to apply the acute attentiveness we learn on the mat to all aspects of our everyday life so that this unitive awareness filters through our relationships, our work, and our play.
