Our Introduction to Yoga courses are perfect for people who are new to yoga or those who want to review and refine their knowledge. Basic yoga poses and philosophy are introduced in a step-by-step curriculum that gradually increases fitness, stamina and strength. You will learn the physiological and psychological benefits of yoga poses using the Iyengar method of teaching. Students will receive individual guidance in ways to modify or strengthen areas of inflexibility and/or limitation. This class is recommended prior to participation in our ongoing Beginning classes. Ashtanga yoga is a traditional practice that consists of a sequence of poses linked by breath, gaze and energy locks. This class will introduce pranayama (breath control) and poses in a 5-week session. Learn how to move through yoga poses with confidence and ease. Tone your body and train your mind in a dynamic practice that builds endurance and concentration. Increase your range of motion, agility, flexibility, strength, lung capacity, endurance and general body awareness. You will be amazed at the healing and therapy that the Ashtanga practice can inspire! Suitable for people who are new to yoga or Iyengar students who want to add a new energy to their practice. Anahata Yoga Center (AYC) is pleased to announce a partnership with the Williamsburg United Jewish Community Center (WUJCC) to offer a 10-week introduction to T'ai Chi for people age 50 and over. This class will introduce a special form of T'ai Chi that improves balance and coordination among older adults. Classes will meet downstairs at the Jewish Community Center, 104 Bypass Road, Suite 100, Williamsburg. Classes will be taught by Sheila Conrad, the T'ai Chi teacher at Anahata Yoga Center. Interested people can also visit our T'ai Chi Open House on Saturday, September 6, 2008 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to learn more about T'ai Chi and classes at AYC.
